Taking a motorcycle helmet on an airplane?
I want to take a Motorcycle Helmet on an airplane, as I'm collecting a bike at the other end. Can it be taken on as hand luggage, or must it checked on to the hold?

definitely hand carry this item. The one time I didn't and checked a helmet it came rolling down the luggage chute, about 30 seconds before the bag that it was secured into before I checked it. It was smashed to ****, it looked like those ****ers were using it as a hammer. That was a $300 helmet and all I got from delta was an attitude and smart *** response. In US and Canada you can carry on two items, don't know about the rest of the world. Three times now I've gone with a backpack and a helmet. Never have been told I couldn't carry it on. If anyone starts thinking too hard about it I immediately stop them and explain that it is a life saving device and I AM GOING TO CARRY THIS ON.
As long as it fits in the overhead compartment or under the seat it can be taken on the plane. I am pretty sure it will fit in the Overhead. Your also allowed two pieces of carry luggage.

so wear it and tell them it's your religion…. would they rather not spend their time better on the people wearing turbans for their religion and boarding the plane?

Definitely take it as a carry on. They are never very nice to luggage I had a suitcase get broken in half due to the way they treated it.

I've taken mine on a few plane trips, and I would definitely recommend taking it on as carry-on. My helmet is a 4XL, and it fits fine into an overhead bin.

I'd wear it throughout the flight …. but then I'm terrified of flying. I might even put it on back to front so I couldn't see out!

I've had grief before at the security controls in Spain. They seem to see it as a security risk. Try to get written confirmation that crash helmets are accepted on as hand luggage before you go to the airport to avoid having to argue with the security staff. If it ends in an argument you will lose, and not be allowed on the plane !
